Iceland, Ipswich: External Refurbishment
The brief
Three workstreams on a single commercial building in Ipswich: refurbish and respray a large metal-clad façade, restore a failing gutter system, and repaint the interior ready for occupation.
What we did
For the cladding, loose and flaking paint was stripped back by high-pressure washing to a sound substrate. Surfaces were then prepared, primed and finished with two spray-applied coats of Giromax coating, working from a cherry-picker given the height of the elevation.
The gutter system was fully restored rather than replaced. We removed corrosion and failed coatings, reinforced and repaired the joints, and applied a Giromax Guttercoat system throughout for a seamless, weather-resistant finish that protects the drainage for the next decade.
Internally, we repainted to a clean, professional standard using spray-applied eco-friendly emulsion for a uniform, durable finish ready for opening.
Challenges
External coating had to be worked around difficult weather, with rain, wind and fluctuating temperatures all in play. Continuous forecast monitoring and flexible scheduling kept prep and coating in suitable conditions. The steel gutter was badly deteriorated and needed careful work to bring back to sound condition.
The result
Delivered on time and on budget. The façade and gutters are protected for around the next 20 years, long-running leak problems are resolved, and the interior was left clean and ready for opening. The standout is a genuine long-term seal, not the temporary coatings many firms apply.
