Mountain Warehouse, Ipswich: Structural Steel Protection

The brief

Prepare and protect a newly fabricated structural steel framework built to carry the store's main external signage. Every surface was to be prepared for optimal adhesion, then coated to manufacturer's specification for corrosion resistance and durability, with full coverage of every element, joint and connection.

What we did

We carried out full surface preparation across the framework, then applied a specialist Sherwin-Williams protective coating system by external spray application. The system was applied strictly to manufacturer's specification, with particular attention to joints and connections where corrosion typically takes hold first.

Challenges

As external work on an exposed steel structure, the coating had to go on in the right conditions. We monitored the forecast closely and scheduled the spray work flexibly so that preparation and coating were never compromised by damp or wind.

The result

Delivered on time and on budget. The steelwork is protected against weathering for around the next 20 years, supporting the longevity and appearance of the store's primary signage.
